Lal is a senior strategist and marketer with proven expertise across the education and financial services industries.

He has 25 years broad strategy, product and change management experience gained from working with a range of organisations including The Open University, British Council, London South Bank University, Barclays, Santander, and KPMG. In addition, he was part of the management team of a financial services start up.

His specific recent experience includes international strategy development, customer journey design, operating model design, and organisational digital enablement.

He has a strong appreciation of how to make sense of the digital revolution with proven ability to develop and deliver online strategy, determine implications for product development, establish market positioning and deliver marketing campaigns to generate business growth. He was responsible for the creation of The Open University’s international direct proposition.

He also has a focus on reigniting growth through aligned income and cost strategies. He was Head of Mortgages for Santander responsible for defining and implementing strategies for customer acquisition and retention, as well as delivery of key mortgage change and operations projects.

Lal has recently hung up his football boots and has now invested in a new bike. He continues to develop his passion for education and learning through his role as a primary school governor and studying via MOOCs.

Lal has a Masters degree in Operational Research from University of Birmingham and an MBA from The Open University.
