As we prepare for the fourth episode of this popular series, it is the perfect time to reflect on the insights gathered from our three previous sessions. Since the inaugural session in October 2024, we have brought together regional leaders to debate how strategy is evolving in a fast-paced, tech-enabled environment.
A Special Edition at Pall Mall (14th January)

Reflections on Previous Sessions
The CEO Strategy Forum has become a vital platform for honest dialogue about leadership. Looking back at our last three events, several powerful themes have emerged.
1. Leeds (September 2025): Purpose and Practical AI
At our most recent gathering during Leeds Digital Festival, hosted at Platform, we were joined by James Brown (Leeds Credit Union), Zandra Moore MBE (Zygens), and Elliot Morris (Mozstro). A key takeaway from these CEOs was the demystification of digital transformation. The panel agreed that short-term, outcome-focused initiatives are often the most effective starting point for long-term change.
Regarding AI, the consensus was that adoption is less about code and more about culture; successful integration relies on building team confidence and fostering experimentation. As James Brown noted, strategy must be rooted in purpose, ensuring that business goals remain valid through the lens of the customer.
2. Manchester (January 2025): Resilience and Collaboration
Earlier this year, we hosted Sam Booth (pro-manchester) and Saile Villegas (Seeai) at Manchester One. This session highlighted the human side of leadership. Both speakers discussed the importance of resilience and the ability to pivot – whether shifting to hybrid events during a crisis or transitioning a business model from medtech to consultancy.
A standout theme was the value of “imperfect leadership,” where collaboration and diverse perspectives are prioritised over the idea of the CEO as a solitary figure with all the answers. As Sam Booth remarked, “challenge and collaboration always lead to better results”.
3. Leeds (October 2024): Culture Eats Tech for Breakfast
Going back to late 2024, our session at West Village during Leeds Digital Festival with Sarat Pediredla (hedgehog lab) and Richard Carter (Lenvi) set the stage for our focus on the interplay between strategy and technology. Whitecap’s Richard Coates challenged the room with the idea that while “technology eats strategy for breakfast,” a solid business model remains essential to realise the benefits of any innovation.
The panel explored the “leadership vacuum” in the tech industry and agreed that while technology comes in waves, it is the people and culture behind the tech that drive meaningful change.
The “Accidental CEO”
Across all three previous sessions, a fascinating commonality appeared: many of our panellists described themselves as “accidental CEOs”. From Zandra Moore starting a business to balance family life, to Sarat Pediredla “drawing the short straw” as a co-founder, these stories remind us that leadership is often a journey of necessity, curiosity, and adaptability rather than a predetermined path.
