Tim is a hands-on strategy consultant who draws on experience from a successful commercial career with IBM and Ernst & Young and from his broad cross-industry experience, acquired through coaching and advising 100+ SME boards on their growth acceleration and exit strategies.
Tim’s specialisms include business development strategy, culture change and Thought Leadership. With a BSc Hons in behavioural psychology, he is particularly interested in the mindset that influences organizational sales and marketing performance improvement.
Evangelistic about bringing the voice of the customer into the heart of a business, Tim brings a pragmatic approach to helping clients develop the habits and processes to out-sell and out-serve their competitors.
Before embarking on his consulting adventures, Tim spent 10 years at IBM in various ‘big-ticket’ new business development roles. He then spent 6 years as sales and marketing director for EY and a further 7 years at Pannone LLP, a top 50 regional law firm.
Career highlights at IBM included winning IBM’s coveted National Excellence award for bringing home a multi-million-pound new business win at Tui (tour operators), following a two-year sales and marketing campaign. Subsequently, Tim embarked on his first culture change project, successfully leading IBM’s global initiative in the north region to transform the Systems Engineering function from a free to a fee earning service. Fees grew from zero to circa. 30% of total revenues within 3 years.
Tim further broadened his culture change experience at EY, leading an initiative in the north region to embed a sales culture within the partners and senior managers. During his tenure, average year on growth in profits exceeded 20%, despite the recession. A further career highlight was launching EY’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ programme and co-developing EY’s strategic growth acceleration tool, ‘Business Evolution’, both of which enhanced the EY brand reputation and attracted £multiple millions in new business fees for the firm.
At Pannone LLP, Tim was responsible for driving efficiencies and improving performance in the marketing and BD functions, in addition to developing the firm’s sales culture. Tim improved new enquiry conversions by 50% and halved the marketing team with no diminution in quality. He led their re-brand which, as planned and hoped for, attracted the attention of a major international player, who acquired the firm.
Tim is a NED with two early stage technology businesses. He is an obsessive fly fisherman and in his free time, likes to disappear into the wilderness in his camper van to fish and wild camp.
