Growth strategy in self build and custom build property sector

BuildStore is an established mortgage advice/distribution business with a market leading position in the niche market for self build and custom build properties. The firm provides a range of niche services supporting developers, mortgage lenders/advisers and local authorities involved in self build and custom build projects.

Whitecap has worked with BuildStore over recent years providing external support on a number of strategic initiatives, all of which have focused on the significnat growth potential of the self build and custom build markets. The Government has pledged to help the public deliver 50,000 custom and self build homes by 2030, however supply and demand issues are holding the growth of this sector back.

Initially, Whitecap was asked by BuildStore to help develop an outline strategy for a new business venture in this sector. This involved working closely with the chief executive to understand the business vision and aims, then articulating this into professionally structured documentation to enable meaningful conversations with potential industry partners.

More recently we have worked with BuildStore and a third party partner to help develop and articulate an innovative initiative that will help provide increased mortgage funding to the evolving custom build sector. This will help deliver circa 8,000 new homes by 2020, equating to a mortgage lending of just under £2bn, rising to £4bn by 2025. Whitecap developed a proposition document covering strategy and operating model, and outlining how various stakeholders could work together to provide a valuable service to customers and mortgage lenders.
