Our story

Whitecap was founded in Leeds by Richard Coates in May 2012 with the aim of providing strategy consultancy support to companies operating in the outdoor adventure market, reflecting Richards’ personal passions of sailing, skiing and climbing.

It quickly became clear that there was a bigger opportunity to build a significant regionally-based consulting practice.

Many aspiring SMEs, growing mid-sized organisations and divisions of corporates don’t have access to dedicated in-house strategy support, nor do they typically benefit from the services of the ‘Big 4’ or large London strategy firms, but they do periodically require support with strategic and growth related issues.

This is where Whitecap has focused its attention since its formation, bringing together skilled teams to support clients’ aims across a range of sectors in an affordable, accessible and practical way.

Julian Wells and Alex Connolly joined the business late in 2012 and became Directors soon after. Together, the three-former strategy and marketing directors from well-known Yorkshire corporates further developed Whitecap’s consulting proposition.

In April 2016, Alex left Whitecap to pursue a building project in York, and a year later in April 2017, Whitecap announced the appointment of three new Directors – Stefan Haase, Luke Freeman and Lal Tawney – and the opening of two new offices in central Manchester and Milton Keynes.
